Kin Advocates Voices is a collection of stories told by Kin OG’s and influential advocates. We highlight their discovery of Kin, why they became supporters, and their journey into the community.
Tell us about your background leading-up to what you currently do in your job or responsibilities?
My professional experience is in software development. This experience varies between writing low latent transaction layers, data processing infra and mobile first applications. In the recent months I have started to dedicate my time to bring the Kin experience to mobile.
My current focus and responsibilities revolve around growing the Kin Ecosystem adoption via the Playtoshi App. Being mobile first, Playtoshi is giving users the opportunity to earn and stake Kin whilst removing the frictions often associated with crypto. There is now a growing Telegram community who is supporting newcomers when it comes to questions regarding staking, sending and using Kin. This is super important for newcomers as they are now starting to feel welcomed and asking lots of questions regarding the ecosystem and how they can get more exposure.
How did you first become interested in cryptocurrency? How did you discover KIN?
My first exposure to cryptocurrency dates back to being introduced to Bitcoin in 2014. Gathered with a bunch of friends, some started to mention Bitcoin and what they thought it was, and why they bought some. I started doing my research after this initial conversation but it took me some time to really get into Bitcoin, and all the other cryptos I started learning about.
Fast forward to 2017, Kin comes along with its whitepaper and its ecosystem proposal! I remember reading a few articles about the purpose of Kin, the new digital cryptocurrency, but it wasn’t until I fully read the whitepaper that I understood how this digital economy was being envisioned for the creators and consumers. Create and earn, this idea is now more relevant than ever. Let’s build!
What inspired you to become a KIN advocate and when did that happen?
It all started with the Kin Ambassador program back in 2018, where a select few Kin advocates were invited to come and meet in New York. The purpose of the event was to celebrate the current success of Kin and create the Kin Ambassador Program. We got to meet and share ideas on how to further grow and gain exposure to Kin.
This all led to having a strong, tight-knit community that communicated daily and moderated social channels. The 2018 event was an uplifting experience and a direct result to a very successful Kin Ambassadors program. I remember back in 2018/2019 Kin really had one of the most active communities in the crypto space. The whole community became involved on Reddit, Twitter, Telegram and Youtube! I personally started making some Youtube videos to help with certain Kin topics and related news.
It all starts with community members who share similar ideas. Then more and more enthusiasts will find each other and bond over these topics. The rest is history.
The Kin community is growing daily, users are participating in the ecosystem as we speak, and builders are building!
Can you describe the activities you undertake, as a Kin community advocate? (What is a typical day or week like pertaining to Kin related activities?)
My current activities revolve around building and growing the Playtoshi App, and also moderating and communicating with community members who use and earn Kin! I help users understand how Kin works on Solana and how they can use certain tools to send/receive Kin to other members. Many community members currently take part in Kin staking and airdrops , so I always find the time to help anyone who wants to learn how to stake Kin.
For new members this can sometimes be a technical hurdle, but the community and I are always ready to help. You can find me on Telegram and Discord – so If you ever have any questions feel free to ask away!
How would you explain Kin to somebody who’s unfamiliar with cryptocurrency?
As a creator, you now have an incentive to build and earn with the Kin ecosystem! Taking part in the new digital economy has never been easier, simply download one of the ecosystem apps and start earning and spending Kin
Web3 is all about giving back ownership to the user, allowing you to earn and be incentivized to create within the Kin ecosystem. We are shifting away from the web2 monetization model where each user is the product.
What advice would you offer newcomers to cryptocurrency/Kin?
Do your research and try to learn as much as possible before diving in. Make sure you are prepared for the market cycles and not be distracted by them. Get to know the community members, engage with the social platforms as there are many users who are willing to help out!
If you are building, you can join our Kin Developer Discord channel, and ask us all about integrating Kin in your new/existing app! If you are not sure on how to integrate or are questioning a feature that you are building, just ask for feedback! We are all willing to help and are very active!
Cryptocurrency is about enabling a new creator and consumer economy to exist and flourish. Kin is leading the way to expose creators and consumers in the most user friendly way. The best time to join is now!
What are some good ways that community members can help the Kin Ecosystem?
Join the Telegram and Discord channels! Community members that have just started joining or are looking to get into Kin should ask as many questions as possible and share ideas. This is the best way to learn and engage in conversation. Once involved, you can start writing articles or tweet regularly about current ecosystem developments, community ideas or your personal experience.
For the users who want to create a more immersive experience, you can start creating Podcasts or Youtube videos! Many users do like the personal experience when it comes to hearing a discussion or seeing someone express their view through video. Any type of exposure is welcome from all community members.
If you want to build with Kin, then I would suggest looking at the current SDKs and how you can integrate them into your project. It all depends on your experience and tech preferences!
